Tucker Maxon is an independent, nonprofit preschool through 5th grade program, currently serving around 100 students
with the support of 30 committed staff members. Approximately 15–20% of our students are deaf or hard of hearing. As of
September 2024, we are proud to be a partner in Multnomah County’s Preschool for All initiative.

Position hours are school days Monday to Friday, with varying shifts between the hours of 7:30 – 5:30pm. School runs
8:30-2:30 with before care 7:30-8:30 AM and after care 2:30-5:30 PM.

Job Summary:

The Educational Assistant at Tucker Maxon plays a key role in supporting classroom instruction, student care, and overall
program operations. Working closely with teachers, the Educational Assistant helps implement lesson plans, prepares
materials, leads small group activities, and provides individual support to students. This role includes supervising children
during classroom transitions, playtime, meals, and extended care, while promoting safety, independence, and inclusion.
Responsibilities also include assisting with toileting and hygiene, maintaining a clean and organized learning environment,
and modeling positive behavior and engagement. The Educational Assistant contributes to a collaborative and respectful
school culture, demonstrates a commitment to professional growth, and is flexible in meeting the evolving needs of the
school community.

Duties:

• Collaborate with teachers to support lesson planning and the implementation of developmentally appropriate
curriculum.
• Assist with preparing classroom materials, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean, well-organized learning
environment.
• Lead small group activities and provide one-on-one or small group support under teacher direction.
• Supervise students during transitions, meals, recess, and outdoor play, promoting safety and positive interactions.
• Support core learning in literacy, math, science, and social studies through engaging, age-appropriate activities.
• Help reinforce classroom routines and support positive behavior strategies.
• Monitor student participation and progress; share observations with teaching staff.
• Maintain classroom cleanliness and encourage healthy habits like handwashing.
• Restock classroom and bathroom supplies and help keep shared storage spaces organized.
• Assist children with toileting needs, promoting independence and providing help when necessary.
• Support students during snack and lunch by helping with food service and opening containers.
• Participate in Morning and/or After School Care programs.
• Be open to feedback and committed to professional growth.
• Work collaboratively to support the school’s mission and values in a respectful, inclusive environment.
• Remain flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the school.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting events, trainings, or other classrooms as needed.

Requirements:

• At least one (1) year of experience performing similar or related duties as outlined in the essential functions, including
experience in comparable or preparatory roles.
• Enrollment in the Department of Early Learning and Care’s (DELC) Central Background Registry, with ongoing
compliance to remain current.
• Completion of required pre-service courses (as listed on the DELC website) prior to working directly with children in
preschool or Extended Care programs.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain certification promptly upon hire.
• Valid Oregon Food Handler’s Card, or the ability to obtain one promptly upon hire.
• Consistently model respectful, professional communication and behavior with students, families, and colleagues.
• Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that values curiosity, continuous learning, and teamwork.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in dynamic, fast-paced settings; embrace change and respond effectively to
evolving needs.
• Take initiative as a proactive, solutions-oriented team member who can work independently when needed.
• Participate in all required staff meetings, trainings, and special events as part of your role.

Compensation:

• $22.27 per hour
