Tucker Maxon School is seeking a passionate and experienced full-time Lead Preschool Teacher to join our dedicated

This full-time, exempt position reports directly to the Head of School. Tucker Maxon is an independent, nonprofit
preschool through 5th grade program, currently serving around 100 students with the support of 30 committed staff
members. Approximately 15–20% of our students are deaf or hard of hearing. As of September 2024, we are proud to be
a partner in Multnomah County’s Preschool for All initiative.

Tucker Maxon: Where Every Child Has a Voice.
Duties:
• Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with
curriculum and student needs.
• Manage classroom organization, materials, and daily routines to support an engaging and effective learning
environment.
• Deliver instruction in whole-group, small-group, and individual formats, adapting based on student observation and
assessment.
• Oversee transitions, meals, and playtime with a focus on safety, inclusion, and social-emotional development.
• Teach core subjects using play-based, hands-on strategies that promote curiosity and independent learning.
• Implement positive behavior guidance strategies and mentor support staff in maintaining consistent expectations.
• Monitor student progress, maintain documentation, and communicate with families and team members.
• Ensure classroom health and safety through daily cleaning routines and modeling good hygiene practices.
• Support toileting, meals, and hygiene routines while fostering student independence.
• Model professional growth through reflective practice, mentoring, and participation in professional development.
• Promote the school’s mission and values through collaboration, inclusion, and equity-minded practices.
• Remain flexible and responsive to school and classroom needs, including special projects and events.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field strongly preferred
• Oregon teaching license required; Dual Certification in Early Childhood and Elementary Education preferred
• Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant classroom teaching experience
• Demonstrated success in early childhood or elementary teaching roles
• Strong interest or background in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
• Active enrollment in the Department of Early Learning and Care’s (DELC) Central Background Registry, with ongoing
compliance
• Completion of all required DELC pre-service training prior to working directly with children in preschool or Extended
Care
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain upon hire
• Valid Oregon Food Handler’s Card, or ability to obtain upon hire
Compensation:
• $44,000.00 – $48,000.00 per year depending on experience and ORO Step, Certified Teacher of the Deaf at higher
end of scale
